Why IBKR verifies some withdrawals
Why Interactive Brokers may ask for a phone verification or extra documents before releasing a withdrawal, and what decides when that applies.
Updated 31 August 2026
If Interactive Brokers (IBKR) asks you to confirm a withdrawal by phone, that is a standard security check rather than a sign of a problem with your account.
Why the check happens
The verification call is a standard security measure by IBKR to help protect you from unauthorised withdrawals. It confirms the instruction genuinely came from you before any funds leave your account.
What decides when it applies
Withdrawal limits are based on the two-factor authentication (2FA) and security method currently set on your account. If the amount you request is above the limit that applies to your setup, IBKR may ask for:
- a short phone verification, or
- additional documents, or both
Once the check is complete, IBKR processes the withdrawal as normal. This is a routine security procedure, and it helps make sure your funds are transferred safely.
If you’re asked to verify
Complete the check with IBKR directly. If you’re unsure whether a request is genuine, speak to your advisor before sharing anything.
